In unit 10 we have studied REPORTED SPEECH. We use reported speech to report what somebody else said. Remember we change the tense from present to past.
DIRECT SPEECH: I like ice cream (said Sally). REPORTED SPEECH: She said she liked ice cream.
We use said when we just report someone's words. We use told when we want to say who the person was talking to.
Apart from this, we have reviewed some MODAL VERBS.
We use HAVE TO / DON'T HAVE TO to talk about something that is necessary or unnecessary.
We use MUST / MUSTN'T to talk about rules.
We use SHOULD / SHOULDN'T / OUGHT TO / OUGHT NOT TO for advice.
In this unit we have studied the RELATIVE PRONOUNS (who, which and that). We can use relative clauses to join two sentences or to give more information about something.
Remember we use WHO with people and WHICH for things. We can use THAT for both people and things.
In unit 8 we have studied the PAST PERFECT. When we talk about something that happened in the past we sometimes want to refer back to something that happened before that time. We can use the past perfect tense to do this. You can see some examples and practise with a quiz on the British Council web page.
REMEMBER! It's important to know the past participle of the irregular verbs! (check this LINK to review them).
